The Emilio Moro winery
The history of Bodegas Emilio Moro goes back three generations: the grandfather of the third generation, Emilio Moro, was born in 1891 and his son Emilio Moro in 1932, both in a wine-growing environment surrounded by vineyards, they grew up treading wine grapes in their hometown from Pesquera de Duero, in the province of Valladolid, and forged their passion with effort vintage after vintage.
Denomination of Origin of Polvorete
It belongs to the DO Bierzo. The Bierzo region is located in the northwest of the province of León. North of Spain. And it limits with the provinces of Ourense, Lugo and Asturias. It occupies an area of ??approximately 3,000 square kilometers.
It has a smallholder cultivation system due to the fact that the properties have been passed from parents to children by inheritance and in each of these transfers the farms are fractioned and divided more and more. In this sense it is very similar to what happens in Burgundy, for example.
It has a moderately undulating orography that makes it possible to distinguish between the estates that are best exposed to the sun and those that are less exposed, and each of them has the potential to produce a different wine.
Average altitude of about 650m above sea level. Its soil is composed of a mixture of clay, limestone, quartzite and slate.
Grape variety used in Polvorete
Variety: 100% Godello
Young vineyards located in the Valle del Silencio, northwest of the province of León and at an altitude of 750 metres. The soils are clay-calcareous and are worked following the local tradition. The Sierra de los Ancares acts as a natural barrier creating a very special microclimate that allows the perfect aromatic development of the Godello grape.
