The Borsao winery
The origins date back to 1958, the year in which he purchased the winery from a private individual and the Borja Cooperative and the original Borsao brand were founded. In 1981, the first bottles were commercialized and in 1991 the first exports were made.
Some years later, the cooperatives of Pozuelo and Tabuenca joined the one of Borja contributing their human resources and most importantly, their vineyards. This union was carried out in 2001 establishing a new company called Bodegas Borsao S.A.
The 700 members of the cooperatives and the management team promoted the foundation of the new winery: starting to set the guidelines for the care of the vineyards, harvest and reception of the grapes and continuing with a renovation of the winery's facilities. Currently there has been more professionalization and now we are 375 wine growers.
The technological capacity, the modernity of the facilities, the great potential of the vineyards and a meticulous sensitivity for a job well done, make up the basic pillars of the winery, consolidating the BORSAO brand as the maximum exponent in quality wines of our denomination of Origin Campo de Borja.
Designation of origin Borsao Tres Picos
Campo de Borja is located northwest of the province of Zaragoza, 60 km from the capital.
It is a transition zone between the mountains of the Iberian System and the Ebro Valley.
It includes the Somontano del Moncayo and extends along the Valley of the
river Huecha and the so-called Llanos de Plasencia.
Side. Campo de Borja treasures among its authentic jewels wines in which the variety "Garnacha" reaches all its splendor.
In the lower area, with altitudes between 350 and 450 meters, we find brown limestone soils and "garnachas", both in traditional glass formation and trellis. It is the earliest maturing area and includes the vineyards of Magallón, Pozuelo de Aragón ... Their wines are warm, powerful and very aromatic
The middle zone is characterized by having the highest concentration and density of vineyards. It includes the vineyards located between 450 and 550 meters of altitude. There are the soils of the terraces of the river "La Huecha", tributary of the Ebro and all the gravelly and clay-ferrous soils. There are the vineyards of Ainzón, Borja, Fuendejalón .... in a relief of gentle slopes and good exposure to the sun. Their wines are very complex, intense, structured and meaty.
The high area of ??the D.O, whose vineyards range from 550 to 700 meters of altitude, corresponds to the foothills of Moncayo. They correspond to the vineyards located in the Altas de Ainzón and Fuendejalón areas, as well as to the municipalities of Tabuenca, El Buste, Vera. Their wines are fine, subtle and elegant.
Variety of grapes used in Borsao Tres Picos
Made with 100% Garnacha ink grapes
Mountain vineyards from 35 to 60 years of age located at 600-700 meters of altitude, with clay-limestone soils, stony and silty.
The region has a continental climate, with winters of Atlantic influence, cold and windy, the wind blowing from the northeast is very common and is called Cierzo, during the summer it has Mediterranean influence, that is, it has high temperatures.
The extreme temperatures and a wide thermal contrast, day-night, summer-winter, helps to get good acidity, a nice color and pleasant tannins in the wines. The low rainfall, an average of 350 - 450 mm favors the development of the vine.
