We are facing a classic from Rioja since 1890

Elaboration Bordón Reserva

Once the fruit has been selected, the elaboration is based on the destemming of the bunches and a gentle squeezing of the grapes to carry out later the alcoholic fermentation and the malolactic fermentation.

What kind of wine is Bordón Reserva

The wine is aged in American white oak barrels (Ohio) of medium roast and French oak for 18 months, with a racking every 6 months to facilitate natural clarification. Later it remains in bottle for its refinement.

Sensations of Bordón Reserva wine

Tasty wine with fruit load.

The Franco Españolas winery

Bodegas Franco-Españolas was born in 1890 as the union between France and Spain at a peak in Rioja, when the French came to the region trying to replace their vineyards devastated by phylloxera disease. It was the origin of the "fine wines of Rioja".
All this led Frederick Anglade Saurat, a native of Bordeaux, to found Franco-Spanish wineries in 1890. The first vintage, a year later, results in the icon wines of the winery: Diamante and Estilo Borgoña. This was renamed Rioja Bordón in the 50s, and in 2017 it was redesigned as Bordón.
In 1920, fifteen years after the death of Anglade, the French sold their shares and the winery became totally Spanish. King Alfonso XIII visits the winery in 1903 and in 1925. Ernest Hemingway will visit it in 1956.
The end of Prohibition in the USA in 1933 and the resurgence of the Regulatory Council in 1953 will give an impulse to exports of Rioja wines. Franco-Españolas has a presence in the major European cities, as well as in Caracas, Buenos Aires, Havana and New York. 1964 is an excellent harvest, perhaps the best of the century.

Denomination of Origin of Bordón Reserva

It belongs to the DO Rioja, a name that dates from the late nineteenth century, but is not officially formed until 1925. The area that receives this designation of origin covers the autonomous communities of Rioja and the Basque Country.
