Denomination of Origin created in 1961, cultivates the grapes of the varieties Monastrell, Cencibel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha tinta, for red wines. For white wines use Macabeo and Pedro Ximenez grapes.
But of all the grapes produced in this DO Monastrell (80% surface area), it is the most representative and largest crop. This grape is characterized by being fleshy and soft and with a small amount of tannins.
The rosé wines of this region elaborated with the aforementioned Monastrell grape, enjoy an international fame.
Located in the Region of Murcia and Castilla La Mancha, it has 44 wineries and an extension of vine cultivation of just over 27,000 hectares.
