What is the Albarin grape

It is a variety of good fertility, early maturing and is very well adapted to the climate of the region. Its early budding makes it sensitive to spring frosts. It is also sensitive to spider mites, mildew, and botrytis. The strain has a semi-erect branch. The bunches are short and pyramidal in shape, small in size and not very compact.
But this early ripening is also a guarantee in this climate. Thus it has a lot of acidity but it also reaches a good alcoholic degree easily. It belongs to the group of those varieties that, thanks to their adaptation, have a long cycle and an early sprouting, manage to mature well and achieve an accumulation of sugars sufficient to give the expected degree of alcohol.

Where the Albarin grape is produced

The very scarce albarín is an identity asset of Tierra de León wines, and practically exclusive heritage, since it is hardly grown in the Cangas de Narcea region. In León the winegrowers have plantations that are over 100 years old and some wineries have turned to recover them.
