Where Riesling wine is made

The Rhine Valley is believed to be the origin of the Riesling grape, in Rheingau, Germany. Its beginning dates from the fifteenth century, and was developed by the nobility and monastic orders.

More recently it has been discovered that the origin of this grape shares kinship with some French and central European varieties, such as the famous Chardonnay, the Melon and the Gamay among others.

But all of them have a common denominator: the Heunich or Gouais grape, almost completely forgotten, a rustic variety that developed in parts of Switzerland. The mother of the Riesling grape is a cross between Traminer and a wild grape.

This grape gives the wines made with it a high acidity, which allows a conservation through the years, both sweet wines and dry wines.

In quality wines the evolution is good and it shows all its qualities after years after the harvest.

Their wines range from medium to very glyceric, and are usually dry and very fresh due to their acidity. The degree of alcohol does not usually be high.

Its aromas are citrus, floral (violet, rose petal), pip fruits, stone fruits (peach and apricot), spices, minerals, and phenolics that develop in the bottle.
