Where the Cabernet grape wine is made

Cabernet Franc is one of the most planted grapes in the world. It is used, above all, to mix with cabernet sauvignon and merlot in Bordeaux wine,

The grape variety Cabernet Franc originates from the French Médoc region. The first written documents recording their cultivation date back to the s. XVIII, although the variety was already known in the Loire Valley before. This valley forms one of the biggest areas of cultivation of this variety. The crossing of the Cabernet Franc with the Sauvignon Blanc resulted in the renowned Cabernet Sauvignon.

It is a strain of budding and early maturation, very well adapted in interior regions of rigorous climates, in which it offers a result of higher quality. It is very sensitive to powdery mildew and botrytis.

It is a vigorous, horizontal-upright strain. Clusters are small to medium in size, and not very compact. The berries are spherical, small in size and very dark blue in color. The skin is medium to thin. The sugar content and acidity in the must is medium.

The aromas of the red wines of the Cabernet Franc show vegetal characteristics. They are wines of color not very intense, of medium acidity and with half body.

Cabernet Franc wines are often used in blends with varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

In Spain, this variety, is accepted in denominations of origin of Catalonia, Andalusia, Aragon and Castilla-La Mancha.
