We are facing Bordón D'Anglade wine that is a tribute to the winery's founder, Baron Frederick D'Anglade.

Elaboration Bordon D'anglade

This wine is only produced by this wine in the vintages classified as Very Good or Excellent by the Regulatory Council of Rioja.
After the selection of the fruit, the elaboration is based on the despalillado of the bunches and a soft squeezing of the grapes to carry out the alcoholic fermentation during 9 days at an average temperature of 24 ºC. Subsequently, the malolactic fermentation is carried out in Bordeaux barrels of French oak to preserve the varietal aromas in the wine.

What kind of wine is Bordon D'anglade

It remained in French oak barrels for 18 months with racking every 4 months to facilitate natural clarification. Subsequently, it remained in the bottle for at least 2 more years.

The Franco Españolas winery

Bodegas Franco-Españolas was born in 1890 as the union between France and Spain at a peak in Rioja, when the French came to the region trying to replace their vineyards devastated by phylloxera disease. It was the origin of the "fine wines of Rioja".
All this led Frederick Anglade Saurat, a native of Bordeaux, to found Franco-Spanish wineries in 1890. The first vintage, a year later, results in the icon wines of the winery: Diamante and Estilo Borgoña. This was renamed Rioja Bordón in the 50s, and in 2017 it was redesigned as Bordón.
In 1920, fifteen years after the death of Anglade, the French sold their shares and the winery became totally Spanish. King Alfonso XIII visits the winery in 1903 and in 1925. Ernest Hemingway will visit it in 1956.
The end of Prohibition in the USA in 1933 and the resurgence of the Regulatory Council in 1953 will give a boost to the exports of Rioja wines. Franco-Españolas has a presence in the major European cities, as well as in Caracas, Buenos Aires, Havana and New York. 1964 is an excellent harvest, perhaps the best of the century.
